'Arrow' season 5 air date, plot spoilers: Oliver juggles life as both mayor and vigilante
It is not at all uncommon for superheroes to be indirectly responsible for the existence of their archenemies and Prometheus will be no different.
The fifth season of The CW's popular superhero franchise, "Arrow," is reportedly bringing in another villainous archer with a grudge and perhaps lesser inhibitions when it comes to killing Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) than Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman).
According to a report by Cinema Blend, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has hinted on Oliver's involvement in the new big villain's fall to the dark side. In the five years that he had been away and presumed dead, Oliver was forced into all sorts of hostile situations that could have given rise to the villain now only known as Prometheus.
Not a lot is known about the fifth season's big baddie at this point. There is also a possibility that he may be someone that Oliver rubbed the wrong way during his first year back in Starling (now Star City) as the bow and arrow wielding vigilante, Arrow. He had no qualms about killing off his enemies back then. Could he have struck down someone that Prometheus cared about or could Prometheus himself have survived a lethal combat with the Arrow?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Guggenheim also shared that the fifth season of "Arrow" will be making a slew of references to the show's freshman season in order to provide more tension to Oliver's will to evolve and be a better version of himself. His will to change may be strong but with his past constantly circling around to push him back, things can only get harder for him from here on out.
In the premiere episode appropriately titled, "Legacy," Guggenheim along with newly appointed executive producer Wendy Mericle and director James Bamford, will be translating onto the small screen a story conceptualized by series developer Greg Berlanti. According to the official synopsis provided by The CW, Oliver is now the mayor of Star City, having won the elections by default after his only opponent, Ruve Darhk, died.
He's still also hard at work moonlighting as the vigilante Green Arrow. He will eventually be convinced by old flame and loyal ally Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) to form an all-new Team Arrow when criminal Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman) poses a threat to the city.
Meanwhile, the flashback sequences will reveal Oliver's involvement with the Russian mob.
"Arrow" season 5 returns to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. EDT.
In line with this upcoming premiere, Loot Crate is giving away an exclusive collectible inspired by the current theme, "SPEED." Fans of "Arrow" and its sister series, "The Flash," can avail of this offer by signing up for a Loot Care plan by Monday, Sept. 19. More details can be found on the site.
