'Arrow' season 5 spoilers: Oliver realizes something's wrong with Laurel
Laurel Lance's (Katie Cassidy) return will be addressed when "Arrow" returns for the second half of season 5, based on the new trailer released by The CW.
At the end of episode 9, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) saw Laurel alive back in the lair. This was a big surprise since Laurel had been stabbed to death by Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) in season 4.
Based on the trailer for the upcoming episode titled "Who Are You?" Oliver will welcome his former lover back into his life, but it seems like he will soon learn that Laurel is not the same person that he once loved in the past.
When Oliver finally realizes the difference, the new Laurel angrily replied: "Finally, it's about time someone figured it out," the new person stated.
Showrunner Wendy Mericle told TVLine that Oliver will be a bit distracted with Laurel's return as they celebrate the New Year in Star City. This will keep his mind off from the death of Detective Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter) which he has been a part of. But it may be a part of a bigger plot for the season.
"It's a familiar face, someone he loves and is very happy to see, and now she's back in the flesh, so it's a very welcome surprise. And yet as we often say, 'nothing is really ever as it seems.' There will definitely be a 'dark silver lining' when Oliver finds out what's really going on," Mericle stated.
Also, the trailer reveals that Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) has an idea that Oliver/Green Arrow has been tricked into killing Billy during the mid-season finale. This could mean that Chase can help Oliver find out who manipulated him in the first place.
The upcoming episodes of "Arrow" season 5 will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 25, on The CW.
