Following "Ash vs Evil Dead" season 2 finale, news about one of the showrunners quitting have emerged. What could this mean for the future of the show?

Former executive producer Craig DiGregorio has reportedly left the show after many unresolved arguments with co-producer Robert Tapert regarding future story ideas. DiGregorio has even recently revealed that the season 2 finale could've gone down a totally different path than it did, if production had only stuck with his ideas.

In his version of the story, Ash (Bruce Campbell) is able to escape the cabin with the Necronomicon, and thus accomplish what they had come back in time to do; that is, to keep his younger self from seeing and reading the cursed book. Pablo (Ray Santiago) is subsequently resurrected, and Ash leaves the Necronomicon for Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Ruby (Lucy Lawless) to destroy while he goes into town in search of his father, Brock (Lee Majors), to ask his old man about that "big secret" he has wanted to share before the Delta hit him in episode 3.

Ash does not find his father, but is instead met with a young lady who turns out to be Kelly's mom. Ash gets intimate with her and ends up siring Kelly in the present timeline. On the other hand, Kelly and present-day Ruby runs into 1982 Ruby, who will then kill present-day Ruby, retrieve the Necronomicon, summon back Baal (Joel Tobeck) and their children, and take Kelly captive when Ash and his crew go back to the present.

"Basically, we were setting up a season three where Ash had to go rescue his daughter... Kelly," DiGregorio said.

Creative differences have led to the major changes that did make it to the small screen, prompting DiGregorio to leave the show for good. DiGregorio has been responsible for the most bizarre twists and turns on the show, which has led fans to speculate if his exit may have compromised the future of the show.

"Ash vs Evil Dead" season 3 returns in Fall 2017 on Starz.
