'Assassin's Creed' Movie Release Date Delay: Pushed Back To Late 2016
The "Assassin's Creed," a movie project based on the popular gaming franchise, has run into a number of hurdles.
Announced several years ago, the movie was supposed to be released this August, but Fox announced earlier this month that the movie will not be seen until Dec. 21, 2016.
Very little details have surfaced about the movie except for the information that Michael Fassbender will play the lead role and Justin Kurzel will be the director.
Den of Geek reported this month that the movie will also be produced by Fassbender and that its plot will be partially based during the Spanish Inquisition. The character portrayed by Fassbender will be in the present although he is able to access memories of his past life.
In his past, Fassbender's character will be an assassin named Aguilar de Agarorobo. The plot, according to Den of Geek, is along the lines of what characters in the video game franchise can do, namely access the genetically linked memories of their ancestors using technology.
If this rumored plot is true then it is possible that the villain will also be someone during the period of the Spanish Inquisition. Many fans have speculated that he could be Tomas de Torquemada. There have also been rumors that Ubisoft will create a game with the same storyline and it will feature Torquemada as well.
With little official news about the film and its cast has, other gaming sites have speculated that Fox is being very careful in crafting "Assassin's Creed" to ensure that it does not meet with failure just like other movies based on games.
ScreenCrush has even gone so far as to state that Fox's initial plan to have the movie debut in August of this year was a "pipe dream" as there was no way it would have been able to complete the project in time since only the lead actor and director have been named so far.
