The highly anticipated big screen debut of "Assassin's Creed" movie finally begins, and fans are hoping that the film can meet their expectations.

Video gamers are typically hard to please whenever their favorite games get a movie adaptation. This could be a disadvantage for the upcoming action-adventure film.

In the movie, Michael Fassbender's character Callum Lynch is an imprisoned murderer who managed to escape his death sentence when he was rescued by a scientist from the Abstergo Foundation named Sophia Rikkin, portrayed by Marion Cotillard.

Instead of being killed by lethal injection, Lynch was forced to join Abstergo's Animus Project where he was programmed to relive the memories of his Spanish ancestor named Aguilar de Nerha, who happens to be an Assassin during the Spanish Inquisition era.

Early reviews were already released prior to the release date of the "Assassin's Creed" movie, and most of them are not in favor of the film. Based on the current report from Rotten Tomatoes, only 25% of the critics offered positive reviews about the game.

According to the movie review site, only those who play the game can enjoy watching the film. New York Times film critic Glenn Kenny claimed that the award-winning cast did not give justice to their roles. "For an ostensible action movie, the cast spends an awful lot of time standing around and looking lost. I can only guess that they were following their director's lead," the critic stated. Other critics, on the other hand, believe that most video game-turned-movies are not worthy of a moviegoer's money.

However, other critics believed that the action sequences can save the film. Tribute News Service's Katie Walsh wrote that film director Justin Kurzel managed to come up with exciting flashback sequences where Aguilar fought his Templar enemies.

The public can start seeing the "Assassin's Creed" movie on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
