'Attack on Titan' season 2 release date news 2016: Funimation brings the hit anime series again to North America
Following the confirmation that "Attack on Titan" season 2 will grace the Japanese airwaves this April, international fans need not have to worry about waiting very long for the arrival of the new installment. Funimation recently announced that it will also be bringing the upcoming season of the anime to North American and Canadian TVs.
While it came as a no surprise to fans given that the entertainment, anime and foreign licensing company did the same for "Attack on Titan" season 1, it is still a welcome development especially with the ongoing clamor for new show content. It has been quite a while since the famed series based on Hajime Isayama's written manga with the same name rolled out its last episode. And the possibility that non-Japanese-talking fans will not have to be subjected in waiting for subbed versions or worse make do with just watching the show without understanding the full context is surely a treat.
"Attack on Titan became an instant hit since it first streamed in 2013 and we are thrilled to bring fans the long-awaited Season 2 of the series," said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of Funimation in a press release in light of the occasion. "Attack on Titan is truly a worldwide phenomenon that has continued to grow at a non-stop pace. Fans can look forward to an exciting second season."
Meanwhile, said Mike DuBoise, EVP and COO of Funimation, also added in the conversation expressing his eagerness to bring "Attack on Titan" to a broader audience range. "Attack on Titan is one of those rare titles that has reached true cult status with anime fans. It's been more than three years since the last episode of Attack on Titan Season 1 and passion from its fans has not waned. We look forward to premiering it on FunimationNow," he excitedly shared.
It has not been announced how the international version will be aired in connection with the local iteration of "Attack on Titan." But chances are, it will be simulcasted so as to not leave the North Americans too far behind on the narrative. With that in mind, the months leading to the new episodes will be a great way to catch up on the previous storyline by binge watching season 1 of the hit animated series.
