'Avatar 2' news, updates: Release date revealed; Disney's 'Avatar' theme park to open Summer 2017
Fans have been waiting to see the sequel of James Cameron's box-office hit "Avatar" for a long time, and it looks like the award-winning director himself finally revealed its release date.
According to reports, the studio scheduled the film's release on Dec. 21, 2018. This won't be surprising news for some anticipating fans because "Avatar 2" has long been rumored to premiere on Christmas 2018. Even Cameron himself has spoken about his hopes to have the movie ready by that time.
The original film made use of 3D and it seems that Cameron wants to take the technology one step further with its upcoming sequels.
Earlier this month, Cameron mentioned in an interview that he hopes to make "Avatar 2" and the future installments in glass-free 3D. "I'm going to push," he said (via Indiewire). "Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates--the things we are working toward. I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen--with no glasses. We'll get there."
On another note, the opening date for Disney's "Avatar" theme park was recently confirmed.
During a convention for Disney's theme park devotees, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek announced that "Pandora – The World of Avatar" will officially be open to the public next summer. Located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the new theme park will feature attractions including the Satu'li Canteen (main restaurant), Windtraders (gift shop) and Pongu Pongu (juice bar). Visitors can also try the Pandora park rides called "Na'vi River Journey" and "Avatar: Flight of Passage."
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver, the first installment of "Avatar" earned a whopping $2.7 billion worldwide—making it the highest-earning movie ever made.
