'Avatar 2' release date and plot news: James Cameron says movie will focus on Jake Sully's family
It's been a while since the release of James Cameron's "Avatar." Although a sequel is well underway, it looks like Cameron is in no rush to get the film out in theaters. Other rumors have suspected that the movie will be focusing on Stephen Lang playing the protagonist in the underwater world of Pandora. However, Cameron has confirmed that the sequels will focus on Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family.
In an interview with Variety, Cameron talked about his plans for the next "Avatar" film. He said, "The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It's more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans."
The last movie saw most of the humans leaving the planet of Pandora and Jake having his consciousness transferred into his synthetic avatar body. With those words from Cameron, it looks like the humans are coming back for more Unobtanium.
The movie is slated to come out Christmas of 2018 but Cameron said that the release may be delayed based on the progress of production. As of now, he wants the sequels to be released close to each other, and the "Avatar" movies are set to come out in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Seasoned directors like Cameron and Steven Spielberg are known to take their time when it comes to making their movies. Cameron had his idea for "Avatar" back in the 90s, but since movie technology couldn't stay true to his vision, he waited patiently until technology was advanced enough. His wait resulted into one of the most, if not the most, successful movies to ever come out.
As of now, the release date of "Avatar 2" is set for 2018, but it may very well change depending on the status of the film's production.
