'Avatar 2' spoilers, release date news: Sigourney Weaver teases film, more will be bigger and better in scope
"Avatar 2" is a couple of years away from releasing. Director James Cameron rarely talks about what the film entails, but thankfully, Sigourney Weaver, who will star in the show and the three movies that will come after, shared exciting details about the franchise's direction.
As revealed before, "Avatar 2" and the three other films are in development all at the same time. The cast is not in the dark on what the movies will entail.
Weaver revealed in an interview with Variety that she has read the three scripts out of the four films and the actress gushed about them.
"In my opinion, the three scripts I've read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope," Weaver said.
"[Cameron] did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play," she went on to say.
"Avatar 2" is expected to be released in Christmas 2018. A schedule released by 20th Century Fox has many believing that it will hit the cinemas in Dec. 21 of the said year.
Cameron has said before that the sequel will be a family saga that will follow Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as parents.
On the technological side of things, the filmmaker is hoping to shoot "Avatar 2" and the next three films in high frame rates and high dynamic range. He also intends to provide a no 3D glasses viewing experience to the moviegoers.
Although "Avatar 2" is set for a Christmas 2018 launch, Cameron has said in the past that it is not final and that it could still be moved if necessary.
He said that he is more concerned about the gap between the release dates of the films than when the sequel will be released. At the moment, though, the December 2018 premiere is still on the table.
