'Bates Motel' Season 5 update, rumors, spoilers: Rihanna to play original character from 'Psycho,' final season expected to be most intense yet
The upcoming fifth season of "Bates Motel" is expected to wrap up the entire series and finally giving way to the events of the original American thriller film "Psycho." One of the highlights of the previous chapter is the death of Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga), the mother of the series' lead character Norman (Freddie Highmore) and the owner of the family-managed motel business. The premise of "Psycho" will be tackled piece by piece as the fifth season unfolds, and during last week's San Diego Comic-Con 2016, another famous character from the film is confirmed to make an appearance.
The "Pyscho" fans will never forget the memorable performance given by veteran actress Janet Leigh, as she breathed the character of Marion Crane to life. One particular scene of the character in the movie is the infamous shower scene when the murderous psychopath Norman Bates was about to stab her to death while she was taking a bath. In "Bates Motel" Season 5, the character will be revisited once more with pop superstar Rihanna slated to play Leigh's original role.
Rihanna herself confirmed her participation in the TV series during the Comic Con event. "I am about to check into the Bates Motel very soon. Guess what else? Guess who's playing Marion! Yes, so all you Comic-Con fans, all you Bates Motel fans, stay tuned!" said the pop singer as quoted by Crossmap.
Meanwhile, the shocking death of Norma in Season 4 will set up the hallucinations of Norman, which will later on develop and turn him into the cross-dressing killer in "Psycho." Actor Nestor Carbonell, who plays Sheriff Alex Romero in the series, confirmed that Farmiga's character will still be present in the fifth season even after her death. Norman will continue to see her mother as a figment of his twisted imagination. He will finally see Norma as the mother figure that Norman had always thought of her before.
