Ben Carson Will Run For President If Anarchy Doesn't Happen First
Former neurosurgeon and conservative darling Ben Carson hinted at the possibility of a 2016 presidential run in a recent interview.
Carson, who was formerly the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, said in a recent interview with Fox News that the "likelihood is strong" he will pursue the presidential ticket in 2016. Carson went on to suggest that "there may be so much anarchy going on" in 2016 that a presidential election may not even occur.
"I hope that that's not going to be the case, but certainly there is the potential," Carson said on "Fox News Sunday" this past weekend.
"You have to recognize that we have a rapidly increasing national debt. A very unstable financial foundation. And you have all these things going on like the [Islamic State of Iraq and Syria] crisis that could very rapidly change things that are going on in our nation. And unless we begin to deal with these things in a comprehensive way, and in a logical way, there is no telling what could happen in just a matter of a couple of years," Carson added, as reported by CBS News.
Carson has been gaining a solid conservative following after he delivered a widely-publicized speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast that was critical of President Barack Obama and his policies. Carson has been a proponent of conservative values that include small government and certain economic changes.
The retired neurosurgeon added in his interview with Fox that although some may see the United States as being in a difficult time, Americans must continue to stand up for their country and work through its problems. "[…] sometimes we're called to do things that we don't want to do because we have to do them," Carson said.
