'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers: Fring's return teased in Los Pollos Hermanos commercial
Giancarlo Esposito revisits his 2012 Emmy-nominated character, Gus Fring, in the latest teaser for AMC's "Better Call Saul" season 3.
The network recently released a fake TV commercial for the famous Los Pollos Hermanos fast food chain, which also doubles as a front for Fring's drug business in the fan-favorite "Breaking Bad" TV series. This could be a hint that the character will make an appearance in the third season of "Better Call Saul," the spinoff featuring the life of another "Breaking Bad" character, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).
Rumors about Esposito's appearance in "Better Call Saul" first appeared after an avid fan decoded a clue that series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould tried to conceal in the episode titles of season 2.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, both Gilligan and Gould revealed that they were not expecting the show's fans to find out about the clue stating "FRING'S BACK" before their planned reveal sometime over the summer.
"We were hoping it would be more of an open question at this point. We had this — to us —this very bright idea of encoding the words "Fring's Back" in the episode titles," Gould stated in the interview. "I guess we really underestimated the genius and hard work of our fans."
However, the series creators claimed that Fring's return does not mean that fans will instantly see him in the beginning of the upcoming season. According to the series creators, Fring will remain guarded just like he was back in "Breaking Bad," and will not allow himself to be exposed in an instant. This means that it will be impossible to see Fring interact with Saul/Jimmy McGill or Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) as soon as the series returns for season 3.
AMC has yet to announce the official premiere date of the third season of "Better Call Saul" in the coming days.
