'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers: Bob Odenkirk says S3 is when things 'really explode'

The sophomore season of "Better Call Saul," AMC's "Breaking Bad" prequel/spinoff, tracked small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) slow transformation into the sleazy and morally corrupt Saul Goodman.

In the season 2 finale, viewers also saw just how twisted Jimmy and his brother Chuck's (Michael McKean) relationship had become, with Jimmy risking all for the sake of Chuck and the latter double-crossing the former. In "Better Call Saul" season 3, Odenkirk says, things will reach a boiling point.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Odenkirk, who is nominated for an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award in this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, said that the new season will be all about "how innocence gets torn away."

"We learn that Saul is just who he's pretending to be to get back at the world," he said, adding, "Season 3 is when things will really explode."

Odenkirk also compared Jimmy with his Saul persona, saying that the former is "vastly more innocent" than the latter. He explained that because of Jimmy's wide-eyed way of looking at the world, he often fails to see the difference between doing the right thing and doing the wrong thing.

"When Jimmy has a plan, he gets very carried away, and it's fun to watch someone going out on a ledge," the actor said. "You're like, 'Dude, you're gonna fall! Keep on falling, see how far you go!'" Odenkirk continued.

Meanwhile, during a panel at the 2016 Vulture Festival last month, McKean shared his insights about the relationship between the McGill siblings. Speaking with New York Magazine's Matt Zoller Seitz, the actor said, "Jimmy's heart is always getting in the way."

As for Chuck, it's not that he doesn't have a heart nor a soul — he has those. However, his animosity towards Jimmy stems from the fact that he "associates the presence of Jimmy with the absence of his good life."

Whether or not the brothers will end up ruining each other's lives or reconciling remains to be seen.

"Better Call Saul" season 3 is currently without an official release date, but it is expected to drop sometime in 2017 on AMC.
