Beyonce Performs Gospel Song 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' at Grammys

Beyonce has sparked a social media buzz due to her live performance at the 2015 Grammys Sunday night, when she performed the Gospel staple "Take My Hand, Precious Lord."

The performance featured Beyonce wearing an all-white, sheer cape surrounded by an all-male choir. The musical artist has said the song was first introduced to her through her mother.

The pop artist said in a behind-the-scenes video of the performance that there is a political message behind the song, saying that she chose to perform the gospel song "to show the strength and vulnerability of black men."

"I wanted to find real men that have lived, have struggled, cried and have a light and a spirit about them," said Beyoncé. "I felt like this is an opportunity to show the strength and vulnerability in black men."

"My grandparents marched with Dr. King, and my father was part of the first generation of black men that attended an all-white school," Beyoncé continues. "My father has grown up with a lot of trauma from those experiences. I feel like now I can sing for his pain, I can sing for my grandparents' pain. I can sing for some of the families that have lost their sons."

The video also shows Beyonce's all-male choir speaking of why they felt the performance was important in connection to the recent deaths of unarmed black men Eric Gardner and Michael Brown.

During the performance, the male performers held up their hands at one point, with critics saying their gesture was meant to represent the "hands up, don't shoot" protest that circulated the U.S. after the deaths of Brown and Gardner.
