New TV series "Beyond" premiered its first episode a few hours ago, giving the audience a different take on a new mystery series. The story revolves around a man named Holden Matthews, who woke up from a 12-year coma only to find out that he has superpowers.

Those who are interested in watching "Beyond" but did not get a chance to watch the kick-off episode, here are the details that should be known. The premiere episode starts with a meteor shower, where Holden is seen as a young teenager going to the tower to witness the skies with his friend, Kevin.

The two geeky kids started stargazing the spectacle above them, but were intruded by Kevin's brother, who got angry with the beer being stolen. The fight went severe, causing Holden to flee the scene with his bike, but met his fate as he crashed in the woods. His crash led to unexplainable events of a bright light coming from the sky while the things in the surroundings began to float.

The scene, then, takes the audience 12 years later with Holden already waking up from years of coma. He found himself adjusting to his new life, where everything seemed to be fast forward. He also has to deal with his emerging dreams of being surrounded by fire, where a girl and a mysterious man appear.

IGN published a review stating that the show has shown a Spielberg-quality outcome, specifically of the scene in which Holden crashes into the woods. The scene spells the classic E.T., though Holden's own story is said to be the most noticeable. Overall, the publication believes that "Beyond" has hit the emotional cores, and has enough mystery to get the audience interested without them being overwhelmed.

NY Times also noted that the supernatural powers of Holden are already familiar as there are other series who already featured such abilities, such as "The Dead Zone." Also, the publication stated that actor Burkely Duffield, who portrays the adult Holden, is "too flavorless to grab your attention and sympathy with the thin material he is given in the early episodes."

Nevertheless, "Beyond" was able to penetrate the interest of the viewers and a lot more of episodes are still to come.
