The finale of Season 8 of "Big Bang Theory" isn't until May 7 yet, but fans are already speculating on what might happen on the last episode.

Producers have promised a big cliffhanger before the season break, and fans are thinking whether this meant that at least one of the main romantic relationships might come to an end.

Based on the season finale synopsis, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) will pressure Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kakey Cuoco) when he pushes them to set their wedding date. However, the intrusion could also lead to some unexpected developments in his own relationship with Amy (Mayim Bialik).

Showrunner Steve Molaro spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and said Sheldon's instigating will be the catalyst for a major shakeup for both Sheldon and Amy, as well as Leonard and Penny.

"The finale episode is actually also the fifth anniversary of Sheldon and Amy's first date — or at least their meeting, which we call a date. It has been five years and even though things have been progressing, for Amy, it's still for her not quite at the speed she'd like, so she really starts pushing back and he's got relationships on his mind because of that," said Molaro.

"He wants to know why he's getting grief about moving slowly where if Leonard and Penny are an example of a couple moving forward, they've been engaged for over a year and can't even pick a date. So he starts poking at that and making them ask themselves the same questions. Both of those couples — Sheldon and Amy and Leonard and Penny — make some huge life-changing decisions," the showrunner said.

Which life-changing decisions will be made? Which relationship will survive?

It should be noted that just recently, Amy and Sheldon made a step forward in their relationship, with their first sleepover, as well as Sheldon's first ever "I love you" to Amy. It would indeed be bittersweet if this relationship suddenly ended. On the other hand, Leonard and Penny have broken up countless times in the past, so a surprise would really be more along the lines of suddenly setting the date or even eloping.

"The Big Bang Theory" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
