Evangelist preacher Billy Graham has recently spoken out regarding persecution in the U.S., warning American Christians that they should prepare for more persecution in the months and years to come.

Graham, who founded the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, made his comments in a recent posting on his official website.

In the posting, Graham warned that persecution in the U.S. will truly test Christians on their faith.

"As a whole, our nation does not know what privation is. We do not know what sacrifice is. We do not know what suffering is. Suppose persecution were to come to the church in America, as it has come in other countries," Graham wrote.

"Since we have experienced little religious persecution in this country, it is likely that under pressure many would deny Christ. Those who shout the loudest about their faith may surrender soonest," the evangelistic leader added.

Graham added that the immunity American Christians have experienced to persecution is unusual and will likely end soon.

"The immunity to persecution that Christians in our country have experienced in the past two or three centuries is unusual. Christ strongly warned Christians that to follow Him would not be popular, and that in most circumstances it would mean cross-bearing and persecution," Graham said.

Billy Graham's son, Franklin Graham, has also warned American Christians of the possibility of persecution, especially following the June Supreme Court ruling that made same-sex marriage a constitutional right.

"You better be ready and you better be prepared because it's coming. I think there will be persecution of Christians for our stand," Graham said back in June regarding the ruling. "I believe the Bible. God loves us, no question about it. So when the president says that '#LoveWins,' yes, God loves us but sin is sin and God has standards. When we violate those standards, any type of sexual relationship outside of a marriage relationship between a man and a woman is a sin against God."
