When the 22-year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was found unconscious in a bathtub in her home in Atlanta on 2015, she was put in a medically induced coma after medical experts found that her brain function was significantly diminished.

Brown died six months later under hospice care as she showed no signs of recovery. The autopsy report initially found no underlying cause of death, and no injuries were noted. Further tests, however, detected alcohol and cannabis substance in her body, and ruled the cause of death as "immersion associated with drug intoxication."

Her family accused partner, Nick Gordon, to be legally responsible for her death, as he allegedly plied her with a "toxic mixture" before putting her face down in the tub.

Gordon was not found criminally liable for Brown's death, but he was found civilly liable when he failed to appear in court in a civil case hearing against him in connection with the death. Brown's family won the case by default.

Gordon was ordered to pay $36 million to Brown's estate by Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford on Thursday, Nov. 17.

"I am pleased with the outcome of today's court proceedings," the father, Bobby Brown said. "I do know that Mr. Gordon will be unable to slander my daughter's name in the future or obtain any benefits from the use of Krissy's name." Mr. Brown also called for authorities to move the criminal case against Gordon in Brown's death.

In addition, Gordon was also accused of battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and unauthorized transfer of Brown's money to his account.

A family lawyer representing the Brown family said in a statement after Thursday's judgment, claiming that "Bobbi suffered such horrific pain and degradation at the hands of Nick Gordon."
