Following the shebang from the season premiere, "Bones" settles a bit this week with a seemingly normal case at hand — only that the specifications of it are more complicated than usual with the supposed involvement of bots.

Tonight's episode titled "The Brain in the Bot" brings Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) to investigate the suspicious death of a tech innovator who was working on artificially intelligent droids. With the mystery of the claimed murder on their laps, the team must once and for all find out whether the developed bot has something to do with the crime or not. As it turns out, evidences pile up against the A.I. being programmed to kill the victim with the promo clip for the installment ruling out that no human can inflict that kind of damage. Given that the bots are made in a certain way and cannot function without any direct orders, it begs the question on who circuited it to do the crime against one of his creators.

Elsewhere in the episode Brennan plans something special for everyone in celebration of her 40th birthday, which she is trying hard to keep it on the down low. As the team surveys a possible crime scene, everybody seems to be just curious what the forensic anthropologist is up to but she remains coy.

As the final season of the long-running crime and medical procedural continues, executive producers Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson promise everyone an ending fit for "Bones."

"It's a big season. It's a compressed, active season because we did 12 episodes, not 22. That gave us the opportunity to really take people on a sort of wrenching roller coaster ride," Collier told TV Guide when pressed about what they are most excited about for the fans to see. This is backed up by Peterson adding: "The whole season builds to a great place."

"Prior to writing them, I was nervous as hell about fan reaction, but now I'm actually excited. I think we did justice to the characters. We play around. It is not business as usual. There's some changes in basic storytelling that we do in Episode 11 where it's not as linear as you might expect," he added.

"Bones" season 12 airs every Tuesday, 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
