'Bones' season 12 episode 2 spoilers: Brennan plans own birthday party as her team deals with a killer robot

The Puppeteer's identity has finally been revealed and Zack's (Eric Millegan) innocence partly proven in the episode premiere of the 12th and final season of "Bones." However, a bit of unfortunate news has also seeped in with the good ones, when it was also suggested that Hodgins (TJ Thyne) may not walk again.

The next episode of "Bones" season 12 titled "The Brain in the Bot" may feature more of Hodgins and his partner Angela (Michaela Conlin) trying to cope with the seemingly inevitable truth that the former may be wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life.

In an interview with TV Line, co-executive producer Michael Peterson said that keeping Hodgins in his chair would feel more genuine than having him miraculously walk again. Just because a person is handicapped doesn't mean he cannot have a wonderful and fulfilling life.

"To do anything less would be disingenuous. So we resolve it by saying he's going to stay this way and his life is going to be fantastic," Peterson shared.

The next episode will also pit Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and her team against an Artificial Intelligence (AI) bot, specifically a sex doll, which may have been programmed to kill its creator. Brennan's 40th birthday is also coming up, and she's planning a very special surprise party for everyone. But forensic anthropologist is coming mum about the details, and it seems to be up to her team to dig up for clues.

One thing's for sure, though. "Wearing clothes would be advisable," Brennan tells her team in the official promo.

Also in the first episode, Zack insisted that he's innocent of killing the lobbyist as well, a statement that Booth (David Boreanaz) surprisingly supported by actually saying, "I believe you."

Will Zack be exonerated before the final season ends? In the same TV Line interview, Peterson confirmed that Zack will appear again in episode 11, which will be all about trying to prove his innocence ten years after he confessed to the crime.

"There's some redemption that has to happen there," Peterson said.

"Bones" season 12 episode 2 airs Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 9:01 p.m. EST on FOX.
