Brooklyn Nets roster rumors: Point guard spot to be a battle in Brooklyn
With the 2016–17 NBA season now on the horizon, all teams are trying to set their roster up to make the best possible run. The Brooklyn Nets are no exception.
Despite being touted as one of the teams that will struggle throughout the campaign, there are a lot of positive things that Brooklyn fans are anxiously waiting to see. Some are looking forward to the partnership of Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin, while some are looking at what Isaiah Whitehead can bring to the table.
The rookie coming out of Seton Hall University, Whitehead is a 6-foot-4-inch guard who can either play the one or two spot. According to Fan Sided, Whitehead can make a splash this season and battle for the top point guard position in the team.
This certainly comes as a surprise as many believed that Lin would automatically be the starting point guard for the Nets. While that may be true for the most part, having competition in Whitehead should also bring out the best in Lin.
To help boost Whitehead's confidence, head coach Kenny Atkinson has high praises for his rookie guard. Talking to reporters, he said: "I think we have multiple guys who can play point guard. But Isaiah's going to push guys for that position, no matter who's there. I don't think he's coming in here saying, 'I'm going to take my time.' He has an urgency about him and a competitiveness. He's ambitious, and that's what I like about him."
Whitehead played two years in college and was impressive as he averaged 15.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He could improve his shooting as he only shot 38 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc.
If he does make a statement and start in the one position, that could lead to Lin moving to the two spot which makes them a budding dynamic duo in the East.
