On his show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" ahead of the much-anticipated interview by Diane Sawyer of Bruce Jenner, the host asked Dr. Phil if he was disappointed that Jenner did not select him to conduct the interview, which will allegedly cover Jenner's journey to transition from man to woman.

Sawyer's most-awaited two-hour interview special with Jenner aired on Friday, April 24, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

"I was wondering if it breaks your heart that Bruce Jenner is going to speak to Diane Sawyer on Friday night instead of coming to your show," Kimmel asked Dr. Phil.

Dr. Phil replied, "It would be boring to talk to me about that. First off, I would say, 'Look. If it's what you want to do...do it! What the hell's it matter what anybody else thinks?' That would be my point."

The audience reacted positively to Dr. Phil's answer. He further mentioned that the rest of the time of the interview would be spent on why Jenner, a former Olympian, waited so long to transition.

"You're almost 80, what's the point?" Dr. Phil noted. "This is a theoretical exercise, right? I don't know. He's kind of past prime for like... right?"

Jenner is actually 65, but people got Dr. Phil's point. Kimmel then noted that with Jenner's illustrious history as an Olympic decathlon gold medalist, even at his age, he will still be able to enjoy and take advantage of what the transition will provide him.

Dr. Phil said he has personally met Jenner and "he's a hell of a nice guy," he said.

In other news, CBS' Inside Edition interviewed Jenner's high school sweetheart, Michelle Rosenthal, about Jenner's transition. She was his prom date and girlfriend. "I would never have through that in a million years. The Bruce I remember was happy-go-lucky. Nice guy, friendly with everybody, popular. The few times I've seen him on [Keeping Up With the Kardashians], he just didn't look happy," Rosenthal said.
