'Captain America 3: Civil War' Release Date, Cast News: Stark vs Cap
It is official. "Captain America 3" will start the Marvel Universe's Cinematic Civil War, which is an adaptation of the 2006-2007 comic book event.
The premise is that after the events of "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" (and the arrival of new villain Thanos played by Josh Brolin), with Tony Stark taking the blame for the villain's creation on his shoulders, he decided that a Superhuman Registration Act, or S.R.A., was the only solution – where anyone with superhuman powers need to be registered, trained and monitored.
This was not agreed on, however, by Steve Rogers aka Captain America. The two superheroes found themselves opposing each other and everyone else in the universe will then have to pick sides.
In "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Rogers realized that government surveillance has its downside and sacrificing privacy and freedom for the sake of national security was not worth it. This was the reason why he opposes Stark's S.R.A.
Circumstances then force the two former allies to defend their positions at the cost of their friendship. Iron Man emerges as a villain of sorts in the film. In the comic, Cap becomes a fugitive, forced to go underground before leading a resistance effort that wage guerrilla-like attacks on Iron Man and the allies of the S.R.A. As the film will probably not follow the comic's plot 100 percent, the basics will be used for Cap's story in "Civil War."
A number of Marvel characters would take part in "Civil War."
Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) will make his first live-action appearance in "Civil War" in costume. This was confirmed by Kevin Feige back in the fall of 2014 when "Civil War" was announced.
Another sure character to join the cast is Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). She was a part of "Winter Soldier" where he bonded well with Captain America. It is not certain though which side she will be on – Stark's or Cap's.
Hawkeye will also be in "Civil War," but just like Black Widow it is also unclear how big a role he will play and which side he will take.
Falcon will likewise be back, with a better suit, and will definitely be on Cap's side.
Bucky Barnes or the Winter Soldier will also be back. With hints that he could have had a hand in the death of Stark's parents, this might drive a wedge deeper into Stark's and Cap's relationship, as Cap will surely try to help bring back his old best friend.
Crossbones (Frank Grillo), Hydra's loyal bad guy, will also be back.
There are rumors that actor Daniel Bruhl will be playing a bad guy named Baron Zemo, but it is not clear whether he will be the main bad guy of the film, and how this character would affect the S.R.A.
The biggest question and speculation about the film is whether Spiderman will be a part of it. Fans of the comic know that Peter Parker played a major role by outing himself to the world, hoping to inspire other superheroes to do the same.
Sony and Marvel had reached a deal on the web-slinger, so the question now is whether "Civil War" is where he will make his entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are talks however, that Spiderman will appear first in "Doctor Strange" a full seven months before the release of "Civil War."
"Captain America 3: Civil War" will be released on May 6, 2016.
