Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, is joining the cast of "Captain America: Civil War," which is due to premiere in May 2016 with production set to kick off next month at the new Pinewood Atlanta Studios.

Renner's role in the movie has been rumored for some time but was only confirmed earlier this month. Renner will be working on the film in the spring and then join another film project later, The Hollywood Reporter said.

A new character is also going to find his way in the movie: Black Panther, who will be played by newcomer Chadwick Boseman. Boseman's debut in the film is highly anticipated as he will go on to play Black Panther in a standalone movie.

Earlier this year, Anthony Mackie, who played the role of Falcon in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," also revealed that he would be back on the screen in "Captain America: Civil War."

The major players in the cast would be Chris Evans reprising his role as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Last year, Marvel revealed that the film will focus on the confrontation between Iron Man and Captain America as detailed in the graphic novel "Civil War."

"Captain America: Civil War" will examine the world following the events in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Those events radically changed society and compelled the government to mandate that all superheroes be registered. Captain America does not approve of this and vows to resist the enforcement of the law. However, Iron Man is fully supportive of the measure, thus becoming an adversary of Captain America.

Indications are that the film will not strictly follow the plot outlined in the comic. Some of the Avengers, including Hawkeye and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), will end up choosing between Iron Man and Captain America and fight for their beliefs.
