'Chicago P.D.' season 4 episode 14 spoilers, news: Home explosion case leads Intelligence to a web of lies; 'NYPD Blue' Alum joins cast

Intelligence tackles a case about a home explosion on the upcoming episode of NBC's procedural drama "Chicago P.D." season 4.

Titled "Seven Indictments," next week's episode will see the team struggle to find leads because the new case has no witnesses, and the victim is burned beyond recognition. According to the official synopsis, a charred body is found in a torched house. Intelligence must find pieces of evidence to identify the victim, as well as the young boy who's found seriously injured inside.

While the team attempt to determine the cause of the explosion and who may have been responsible for it, they are faced with a complicated web of secrets and lies. Elsewhere, Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) grow more suspicious of Rixton (guest star Nick Wechsler) after receiving a strange warning about him.

In other related news, the series is introducing a new character this season. "NYPD Blue" alum Esai Morales has joined the cast, and he will make his debut in the upcoming three-show crossover airing on March 1. Morales will recur as Chief Lugo, a 30-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department. He is used to the old-style policing tactics, but he is trying a different approach to police work as he becomes the department's new leader.

The three programs included in the crossover are "Chicago Justice," "Chicago P.D.," and "Chicago Fire." Morales is the latest actor to head to District 21, joining season 4 newcomer Wechsler. "The West Wing" actor Bradley Whitford is also appearing in the three-way crossover as a guest star.

"Nothing remotely like this has ever been done with a three-hour block of programming," series creator Dick Wolf said about the upcoming crossover. "[It's] very challenging, but a great story and something I think that will keep people sitting there for all three hours. Each one has a slightly different variation on the same theme. Each hour is giving you new information and moving toward a great courtroom conclusion," he went on to say.

The fourth season of "Chicago P.D." airs every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
