Christian girl who was removed from foster home of Muslim family says 'she misses them'

The 5-year-old Christian girl, who was removed from the foster home of a Muslim family in London after complaints from her mother, has apparently had a "warm relationship" with her former carers and has stated that she "misses them."

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was allowed to live with her grandmother in August after the mother protested about her daughter's placement with two devout families, who allegedly confiscated the child's crucifix and prohibited her from eating her favorite meal because it contained pork products.

The child had also reportedly told a social worker that the carers "don't speak English" and encouraged her to learn Arabic.

It was previously reported that the Tower Hamlets borough council made the two placements against the wishes of the girl's family.

However, on Monday, Judge Khatun Sapnara told the East London Family Court that both the girl and the grandmother deny the allegations against the foster families.

"[There are] suggestions for example that the maternal grandmother herself is dismissive of those concerns and is very upset by them, and in fact has a warm relationship with one of the foster carers, as does the child – with the child expressing a view to wanting to see that foster carer, and saying she misses the foster carer and a child in the same placement," she told the issues resolution hearing, as reported by Metro.

"I'm making no findings one or the other about the truth of allegations made against the foster carers, but it seems to me this provides the alternative narrative, if I can put it like that," she added.

The mother identifies as a Christian and has had her daughter christened, but it was revealed in previous hearings that the grandparents are Muslims and speak little English.

The judge noted that the child is of dual-nationality and that her maternal grandparents have expressed plans to move back to their home country, which cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The mother, however, opposes the plan and wants the 5-year-old child to stay in Britain. Sapnara reportedly warned the mother that her daughter could be placed with permanent foster carers if it was determined that she is not fit to care for the child.

According to The Telegraph, the girl was originally taken from her by the police, and the court was notified that she is undergoing alcohol and cocaine testing to prove that she is cleaning up her act. A further hearing on the case is expected to take place on Nov. 3.
