Christian volunteers and chaplains lend a helping hand after tornadoes damage Iowa community
Samaritan's Purse is on the ground in Iowa after tornadoes ripped through the area last week damaging hundreds of homes.
The non-profit says over 700 homes have suffered damage in the Marshalltown area. Samaritan's Purse volunteers are working out of the Evangelical Free Church in the town to help the community rebuild.
The disaster relief unit includes many tools and supplies to help patch up the homes and remove debris.
In addition to the practical assistance, chaplains from the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team will be on hand to offer spiritual and emotional support to those affected by the tornadoes.
"Many families are devastated by the twisters that tore through their communities Thursday afternoon," said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse. "We are on the ground helping them recover from the storm."
The tornadoes blew through the area last Thursday, causing damage to homes, cars and buildings.
Seven people were injured after a tornado hit the Vermeer Corporation, an agricultural manufacturer in Pella.
Graham said: "Please pray for these families as we share the love of Jesus Christ with them in their time of need."
