There is currently speculation among "Clash of Clans" fans that ownership changes at Supercell may be behind the delayed update for the freemium massively multiplayer online (MMO) strategy mobile game.

It was previously revealed that a huge new update for "Clash of Clans" will be released in September. However, September ended with no new update for "Clash of Clans," leading fans to wonder if something is happening behind the scenes that could be disrupting Supercell's usual development of the game.

Earlier this month, Supercell, the Finnish mobile game developer/publisher behind "Clash of Clans," bought a 51 percent stake in Frogmind, the start-up behind the popular game series "Badlands."

In June, Tencent Holdings Ltd., a Chinese company, bought a majority stake in Supercell. Reuters reports that the move has allowed the mobile game company to "keep its operational independence."

Meanwhile, Mobile & Apps notes that there have been indications that the September update is already rolled out to the game's new server and that sneak peeks will come out prior to the launch of the actual update.

However, with September already over, the website suggests that the update could be released either later this month or in November. Mobile & Apps also notes that the rumored massive release could come loaded with Halloween elements.

Game N Guide adds that the upcoming "Clash of Clans" update is rumored to include a new feature called "Clan Challenge." It will reportedly allow clans to send out "friendly war requests" to other clans. A Town Hall 12 will also allegedly be added to the game.

Last month, a Supercell moderator addressed the issue of the missing update, writing, "The update will be here when it is ready, whether that is September or not.. I can't say."

"Of course the team will aim to have it out ASAP," the moderator also stated, adding, "but no set date or even month has been stated."

More recently, a Supercell staff member wrote, "If all goes according to plan sneak peeks will start next week, so please hang in there a little longer."
