'Criminal Minds' season 12 release date, spoilers news: Paget Brewster joins upcoming season; Chase for Mr. Scratch continues
A familiar face comes back to help the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) track down escaped prisoners when "Criminal Minds" season 12 returns this fall.
The season 11 finale of "Criminal Minds" saw 13 serial killers escaping jail, and logic dictates the upcoming twelfth installment would pick up from there. However, aside from going after the unsubs, the BAU team would also be hot on the trail of "resident" bad guy Mr. Scratch.
With such huge undertakings in their hands, the team, including newcomer Adam Rodriguez' yet unnamed character, will need the help of someone who knows the ins and outs of the system.
Just this past San Diego Comic-Con, during the Fan Favorite Panel, "Criminal Minds" executive producer Erica Messer announced that Paget Brewster is reprising her role as Emily Prentiss in the upcoming season.
"We're excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season. The BAU can use more help this year since they've got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch," Messer said as noted by Entertainment Weekly.
Actually, there have been talks that Brewster would be making a comeback to the police procedural drama, but the actress avoided giving anything away. That is, until Messer's announcement, prompting Brewster to post this on her Twitter account:
Yibada noted that this would be the third time Brewster would join "Criminal Minds." She first joined the series in its second season in 2006 and was a regular cast until season 7. She made a comeback in season 11 before her character left to join the Interpol. It has not confirmed yet if her third stint is for a regular role in the series.
Also reprising her role in "Criminal Minds" season 12 is Aisha Tyler, who would be back as Dr. Tara Lewis.
Meanwhile, Movie News Guide said that the chase for Mr. Scratch would continue in season 12. He was among the 13 serial killers who managed to escape prison, and since his whereabouts were never traced, the BAU might pick up season 12 with their continued search for the escapee.
"Criminal Minds" season 12 will return on CBS on Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET.
