Czech Christian aid worker jailed in Sudan continues to share Gospel in prison
Petr Jasek, a Czech Christian aid worker who is currently incarcerated in a Sudan prison, is remaining steadfast in his faith in Christ and he is pursuing his mission to share the Gospel.
Jasek, along with Rev. Hassan Abdelrahim Kodi, Rev. Kuwa Shemaal and Abdelmoneim Abdelmoula, are currently on trial for several offenses including espionage, waging war against the state, inciting hatred between classes and propagation of a false news article, Mission Network News (MNN) reported.
The last hearing was conducted on Nov. 14. The four men could be sentenced to death if they are found guilty.
Dr. Jason Peters, Associate Vice President of Voice of the Martyrs, USA, has kept in contact with Jasek throughout his incarceration. He said that the aid worker was trying to learn more about the situation of a Christian man who was attacked, tortured and burned prior to his arrest.
Before Jasek could leave the country, the authorities stopped him at the airport. He was detained and his belongings, including a laptop and a camera, were confiscated.
The aid worker has been incarcerated for nearly a year but the time he has spent there has not been wasted.
"He's actually been able to reach out to several people [in prison]. He says he's sharing the Gospel just as effectively as he would outside of prison. He's said they're able to have worship services together, they're singing together, they're studying Scripture," Peters told MNN.
Peters said that Jasek had difficulties in obtaining a Bible but he eventually got one. The aid worker is now using the scriptures to share the hope he has in Christ to the other prisoners.
"This brother is just an inspirational guy.... We were able to get word out from [Jasek], and he said, 'God holds the key to my cell. I've been talking about persecuted Christians in Sudan for years and now I find myself among them,'" Peters said.
"He's married, he's got some children, but he said, 'It's okay, because I know God has called me to this place to minister to these brothers,'" he added.
Another Czech missionary has said that Jasek's health is starting to deteriorate. A petition calling for his release has already gathered over 340,000 signatures.
