Dallas Cowboys NFL trade rumors 2016: Working out DE Damontre Moore? Not keen on trading for veteran?
On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys played their first pre-season game for 2016 against the Los Angeles Rams. However, latest National Football League (NFL) rumors reveal that the issue the Cowboys are facing regarding their backup quarterback (QB) still stands.
Rookie QB Dak Prescott was impressive during his first-ever preseason game, completing 10 out of the 12 passes he made. He had a 154.5 passing rating, made two touchdowns, and zero picks. USA Today's Jarrett Bell was quick to point out that Prescott overshadowed the Rams' Jared Goff, who was miserable in his first preseason game.
Bell showered praises on the Cowboys' rookie quarterback, saying Prescott looked like the first overall pick when compared to Goff. He also lauded the Cowboys and whatever strategy they used to fast-track Prescott's development and progress.
"On Saturday night, he had a good start, fortified by the poise he's demonstrated on the practice field. And the Cowboys' fast-tracked, aggressive approach in developing Prescott showed, too," Bell reported.
There were rumors that Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was looking to trade for a veteran backup QB. However, Garrett was quick to downplay the rumors, saying they might not trade for the position. Prescott's performance could earn him that spot while Jameill Showers could take the third string playmaker post.
Despite Garrett's pronouncement, Dallas Morning News' David Moore said during his weekly online chat that there's a possibility the Cowboys will trade guard Ronald Leary for a veteran backup QB. Apparently, the team is targeting Cleveland Browns' Josh McCown.
"I believe a veteran quarterback will be added. Prescott will be the No. 3 quarterback, which was the initial plan before Kellen Moore went down with a fractured ankle," he said.
Meanwhile, the rumor mill spawned talks that the Cowboys are "desperate" at the defensive end (DE) position, so much so they were working out a deal with DE Damontre Moore.
Moore, labeled a draft bust, is exceptionally talented. Nevertheless, his unprofessional habits and inexcusable penalties on the field underscore the player's immaturity. An ailing Cowboys team looking to work out a deal with him is considered by some as a desperate move.
However, 247 Sports, per insider Mike Fisher, confirmed that the Cowboys have, as of the moment, decided not to move forward with the signing of Moore.
