'Dancing With the Stars' season 23 cast latest news: Olympians to dance their way to stardom?
ABC's hit reality show "Dancing With the Stars" season 23 will start airing as soon as casting is complete.
Currently, only two names, Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev, have been confirmed, according to People, based on a teaser image of the show featuring both dancers.
Latest updates suggest that some of America's Olympic stars may take to the dance floor to show off their dancing skills. Athletes who have gone off to participate in prestigious sporting events like the Olympics are known to be fiercely competitive in their respective fields. The question looming on everyone's mind is will that competitive spirit manifest on the dance floor?
If rumors prove accurate, five top athletes from the Rio Olympics 2016 may appear on the reality show's season 23, according to CarterMatt. The entertainment blog said that Simone Biles deserves to be on show's roster as the world's best gymnast.
The four other Olympians on the list were all from the swimming tilt, including the world's most decorated Olympic medalist of all time, Michael Phelps. The 31-year-old swimming sensation hoarded a total of 28 medals — 23 of which are gold — in his 12-year Olympic career. The list also includes champion swimmers like Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, and Ryan Murphy.
Many Olympians have joined reality TV show competitions before, such as Meryl Davis, Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Apolo Anton Ohno, and Charlie White. It wouldn't be entirely surprising to see the abovementioned names try to further cement their fame through season 23 of "Dancing With the Stars."
Meanwhile, Day Herald also mentioned other rumored contenders for the dancing competition. Such include "Bachelorette" star JoJo Fletcher, "Real Housewives of New Jersey" cast member Teresa Giudice, former New Zealand "Bachelor" star Jordan Manger, and former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) broadcaster Jonathan Coachman. However, it remains to be seen whether or not they will be included in the final list when ABC makes the announcement on Aug. 30.
The show's 23rd season will air its first episode on Sept. 12.
