"Avatar" actor Stephen Lang is interested in playing Cable, a highly-anticipated character that will be showing up in the sequel to this year's box office hit "Deadpool."

In a recent interview with Mashable to promote his new film "Don't Breathe," Lang spoke about how the fan campaign to have him play Cable began and what's stopping him from taking on the task.

Lang first entered the "Deadpool 2" casting roulette when he tweeted a photo of himself at the gym with the caption "Let's lay some CABLE #DEADPOOL." Following his tweet, fans began asking for the actor to play Cable, with many commenting that he is a dead ringer for the silver-haired mutant. Concept art featuring Lang as Cable have since been popping up online.

According to the actor, he was a fan of "Deadpool" and would be "delighted" to participate in the sequel. However, he also said that no one has approached him to sign up for the film and that he isn't even sure if he is being considered for the part.

"But they must be aware of it, because whoever makes those decisions must be aware of everything," he told Mashable, adding, "Plus, I think I'd do a pretty bang-up job with the part."

Nonetheless, Lang made it clear that his priority is James Cameron's "Avatar" series of films, which are scheduled for release in the next few years.

"Having said that, understand that my obligation is to the largest, most successful film ever made, so 'Avatar' takes precedence," he explained.

Meanwhile, "The Martian" actress Mackenzie Davis recently denied the rumors that she is appearing in "Deadpool 2" as the mutant Neena Thurman, who is also known as Domino.

The rumors about Davis' casting in the highly anticipated sequel came from Mashable senior film reporter Jeff Sneider, who told Meet the Movie Press last month that Fox is considering the actress for the part.

Speaking with GQ, Davis clarified the issue, saying: "I'd love to keep the ruse going. It's sort of cool that people think I'm doing 'Deadpool.' But no! I don't have any news to share. I wish I did!"

In the Marvel Comics, Domino is a member of the X-Men and the partner/lover of Cable.

The "Deadpool" sequel is scheduled to be released on Jan. 12, 2018.
