'Deadpool 2' premiere date, cast news, spoilers: Pierce Brosnan to play Cable? writers talk about David Leitch as director
Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular character, recently posted a photo that caused speculation to spark that Pierce Brosnan will be cast as Cable in the upcoming Marvel film. Meanwhile, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick shared what their new director, David Leitch, brings to the sequel.
It was teased at the closing credits of "Deadpool" that Cable will be brought in the sequel. There have been no announcements yet to who will play the new character, but Reynolds posted a photo that possibly hints who that actor might be.
In a photo posted by Reynolds on his Instagram account, the actor was sitting with Brosnan and Hugh Jackman. The photo was captioned "Wolvie. Bond. Wade." In the image, the three were doing the "hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" pose.
Reynolds has previously mentioned that he wants Jackman to appear in "Deadpool 2" as Wolverine, and it might be possible that Brosnan will be the one to appear as Cable.
But The Hollywood Reporter points out that is it possible that Reynolds is only trolling the "Deadpool" fan base because a photo of the trio was posted on the actor's Facebook page, in which they appear to be mischievously happy.
Meanwhile, "Deadpool" recently lost its director, Tim Miller, when the franchise moved on to a sequel due to creative differences with lead star Reynolds. But "Deadpool 2" has tapped "John Wick" director Leitch to spearhead the film.
"Deadpool" writers Reese and Wernick shared with Collider what the director has added to their ongoing development of the sequel.
"He's a great guy. He's great with stunts, obviously, and action. But he also really understands story. I think he just knows how to tell a simple story," Reese said.
"If you look at 'John Wick' and 'Deadpool,' they have a lot of similarities. They're both simple tales of love and revenge ... Their DNA is not entirely dissimilar," Reese explained.
"Deadpool 2" is set to premiere in 2018.
