'Doctor Who' season 10 spoilers news 2016: Peter Capaldi talks exit; new character leaked as more Christmas special details uncovered
While the focus is currently on the Christmas special of "Doctor Who," season 10 of the series has been the subject of many discussions for quite a while too.
Peter Capaldi, who returns as the Twelfth Doctor in the new season and in the superhero-themed Christmas special, recently talked about how long he plans to be part of the show.
"I've been asked to stay on and I haven't made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don't want to have to make that decision. I'm trying to avoid it," he told Wales Online.
"It's special. I'm lucky enough to be in touch with other Doctors, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position. To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven, so I'm just putting it off for as long as possible," he went on to say.
"Doctor Who" season 10 will be Capaldi's third year in the role. Steven Moffat will no longer be part of the series, which is believed to be one of the reasons the actor is unsure of staying.
At the moment, however, Capaldi is enjoying his time as the Time Lord. Fans will see him again in action in the "Doctor Who" Christmas special, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio."
This special will see the Doctor meet the Ghost, a comics fan by the name Grant Gordon (Justin Chatwin) who accidentally receives superpowers. His first instinct is, like the comic books he reads, is to be a superhero with a secret identity.
The Time Lord, along with Nardole (Matt Lucas), who will also appear in "Doctor Who" season 10, will work to stop an alien invasion with the help of Ghost and an investigative reporter.
The aliens seeking to conquer the Earth have been around before and they will be led by a Lex Luthor-style villain, according to Moffat.
Meanwhile, "Doctor Who" tipster Ruther2 shared information on the characters to expect in the "Doctor Who" season 10 premiere.
He shared on Twitter a screenshot of the online curriculum vitae (CV) of British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award-winning "The Wee Man" actor Daniel Kerr, who will be seen in the premiere.
The star will play the role of Ban in the "Doctor Who" season 10 opener, "The Eaters of Light."
"The Return of Doctor Mysterio" will air on Christmas Day at 5:45 p.m. on BBC One while "Doctor Who" season 10 premieres next year.
