'Doctor Who' season 10 spoilers: Peter Capaldi expected to stay after Steven Moffat exit, Jenna Coleman speaks about Clara's return
There were previous reports that Peter Capaldi will no longer play the role of the Time Lord after "Doctor Who" season 10. Such is not the case, as per showrunner Steven Moffat.
"I have no reason to suppose that I'm writing out a Doctor," Moffat revealed via UPI in the latest issue of the Doctor Who magazine. "Peter is loving the role, and long may he do so," he continued.
Although Capaldi looks to be staying after "Doctor Who" season 10, Moffat himself is not. He will leave the series after the next run of the science fiction series, but BBC seems to be intent on keeping Capaldi even after the writer's exit.
"I've been asked to stay on, but it's such a long time before I have to make that decision," Capaldi told RadioTimes earlier this year. He praised Moffat and gushed about how "absolutely wonderful" he is.
With regards to his status on the show after "Doctor Who" season 10, Capaldi said that he has no idea where the show will go when Moffat exits. "I don't know. I have to make up my mind, and I haven't yet," he said.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that Jenna Coleman will be back as Clara in "Doctor Who" season 10. The actress left the show last season and now plays the titular character in the new series "Queen Victoria."
During the show's panel at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer tour, Coleman addressed the questions of a possible return in the Whoniverse.
"We had the exit in the works for so long. Who knows, in the future," the actress said when asked by Collider if she could play Clara once again.
She then imagined Clara's current situation, saying that she is "probably broken down somewhere in time and space, trying to understand how to work a TARDIS with Ashildr (Maisie Williams).
Although things are up in the air at the moment (especially since she will be busy with her new show), fans won't have to fret as they will meet a new companion in "Doctor Who" in Bill (Pearl Mackie).
"Doctor Who" season 10 will premiere sometime next year, but a Christmas special is set to be aired.
