2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump recently said that he's uncertain if he's ever asked for God's forgiveness.

Trump made his comments during a recent interview at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa over the weekend, after moderator Frank Luntz asked the real estate mogul if he had ever pursued God's forgiveness.

"I'm not sure I have ever asked God's forgiveness. I don't bring God into that picture," Trump said.

The 2016 presidential hopeful then went on to reference his Catholic faith, saying "When I go to church and when I drink my little wine and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of forgiveness. I do that as often as I can because I feel cleansed. I say let's go on and let's make it right."

Trump, who announced his plans to run for president last month, has courted controversy in recent weeks through a series of comments that have received criticism.

In early June, Trump made a connection between Hispanic immigrants and rapists, saying that Mexico is sending criminals over the border into the U.S.

"They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people," Trump said.

The real estate mogul's controversial comments were met with criticism, with NBC saying it was ending its business relationship with Trump due to his speech.

Trump also received criticism recently for questioning Sen. John McCain's military record, telling Luntz that McCain is "a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

Trump's comments caused McCain to suggest that the 2016 presidential hopeful should apologize to the families of POW's.
