Donald Trump news: Influential Christian publication calls on evangelicals to drop GOP presidential frontrunner
An influential Christian publication has finally decided to voice out its opposition against Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.
On Monday, senior editors of The Christian Post released an editorial expressing their negative views on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. The editorial said the real estate mogul does not bear true Christian values.
Until Monday, the popular Christian publication had not taken a stance on any political candidate. However, the senior editors decided to break their silence on Trump because he has claimed to be a representative of the evangelical community.
At the beginning of the Christian Post editorial, the editors boldly tell their readers to back away from the GOP frontrunner. The post claims Trump would be a "dangerous leader" for the U.S.
The Post points out that Trump claims to be a Christian and yet has not asked for forgiveness. Moreover, the publication claims his speech and actions do not reflect the "fruit of the spirit." The editors noted the way he uses insults and obscenities regularly in his campaigning and debating.
Aside from that, the publication slammed Trump for being a "misogynist" and "philanderer" who degrades both women and the minorities. His refusal to disavow the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was also highlighted in the editorial. The Post says the KKK represents the country's worst, and a person who does not denounce the group's support should not become president.
The Post expressed alarm at Trump's intentions to bypass the Supreme Court, Congress, and the U.S. Constitution if he wins in the elections. On Sunday, he said he will make it easier to sue publications that criticize him. When he was told that the Constitution would have to be amended first to do this, Trump mentioned that England's protections for media are weaker.
The Christian Post ended the editorial with a warning that Trump may claim to be a friend at first, but will later turn against the people if he does not have their support anymore. The publication also called on Christians to pray for the U.S. to have a "spiritual awakening" at a crucial time like the present.
