'Don't Breathe 2' release date, news: horror film sequel is in the works, director confirms
Recently, it has been revealed that one of the hit horror films of the year, "Don't Breathe," is going to have another installment and it is already in the pipeline.
It was confirmed by no less than "Don't Breathe's" director and co-writer Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues. The news broke out during a talk with ComingSoon.net. During an event to promote the release on "Don't Breathe" on Blu-ray, Alvarez told ComingSoon.net that he is now planning for the sequel to the movie and mentioned that Stephen Lang will reprise his role as one of the first film's main characters named Norman Nordstrom, also referred to as the Blind Man.
In the same occasion, Alvarez also confirmed to the news source that he is working on the sequel to "The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" that will be titled "The Girl in the Spider's Web."
GameSpot reported that while Alvarez was discussing "The Girl in the Spider's Web," Sayagues quipped, "There's also going to be more 'Don't Breathe.'" Alvarez, then, followed on that they have just started working on the sequel but they are already certain of where to take its story.
The director then reiterated, "But we won't tell you right now. But there will be more Don't Breathe for sure."
The same GameSpot report noted that "Don't Breathe" started out with a scanty $9.9 million budget but it definitely brought home the bacon. As per Box Office Mojo's record, the horror film bagged in more than $152.4 million gross sales from its worldwide screening. With those enormous figures, there is no doubt that the movie deserves its sequel order.
"Don't Breathe" builds up its story on three friends Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette) and Money (Daniel Zovatto). These three crooked guys make money by breaking into homes that are "protected" by Alex's father's security company and selling the stuff they take.
However, the money they make out of it seemed not enough for them. Then, Money heard about the Army veteran, Blind Man, who is believed to be hiding at least $300,000 in his home that he got as settlement money from the woman who killed his daughter in a car accident. The gang subsequently decided to break into the Blind Man's house.
Meanwhile, ComingSoon.net clarified that the film studio that will handle the sequel to "Don't Breathe" is yet to officially announce the film; thus, there is no release date available yet.
