'Doom' free update news: game focuses heavily on multiplayer mode; 'double XP' event happening right now

Players of "Doom" can already enjoy the free update right now. Bethesda and id Software have updated the hit video game and it offers several new features to add more hours of gameplay.

The critically acclaimed sci-fi shooter game now has a free update and it has several fresh features for the multiplayer mode, aside from the SnapMap custom modes. The update is so grand that it requires a whopping 18GB download on PC.

This is something that surprised players, but still, many are willing to spare on their computer the free space just to see what the new update has to offer. "Doom" was just launched in May and already it has earned the praises gamers around the world. In fact, most avid players are freeing up space on their PCs every month since Bethesda has been updating the game every now and then.

The SnapMap of the "Doom" free update includes props and modules themed after the Lazarus Lab level. Players can now take the role of Doom Marine while creators can utilize more elements in the campaign.

As for the multiplayer mode, here is the breakdown of the update:

• Infernal Run game type: A team mode in which players must try to control a ball and get it in the opponent's goal
• Bots: Computer-controlled enemies for playing the competitive modes offline
• New level cap: Achieving Echelon 11 will unlock Doom's Praetor Suit

"Doom" free update is heavily concentrated on its multiplayer gameplay, which is why it is holding a "double XP" weekend. This started on Dec. 7 and will end on Dec. 12.

The final DLC of "Doom," titled "Bloodfall" is also coming in a couple of days. It gives the players opportunity to take control of Spectre Pinky demon, which has the ability to become invisible in the three initial maps. "Bloodfall" is set to be released on Dec. 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PC.
