The latest episode of "Downton Abbey," which aired at 9/8c on PBS on Sunday, provided a lot of action as the secret of Edith (Laura Carmichael) was uncovered by some family members.

There was a heated exchange over dinner when the son of Lord Merton (Douglas Reith) tried to prove that he was just like his mother.

Most of the action sprang from Edith's abrupt disappearance. It started when Mrs. Drewe (Emma Lowndes) informed Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) about Edith claiming Marigold as her daughter. This led Cora and Rosamund (Samantha Bond) to go to London to try and locate her at the publishing company that Edith had inherited. There they managed to convince her to return with Marigold.

Mary (Michelle Dockery), meanwhile, has to deal with the attachment of Gillingham (Tom Cullen) to her. Blake (Julian Ovenden) offered to help her get rid of him permanently. Blake then convinced Mary to come with him to London, where they eventually met at a theater and kissed just when Gillingham was leaving with Mabel (Catherine Steadman).

The relationship of Rose (Lily James) with Atticus (Matt Barber) progressed during the episode, culminating in him proposing marriage. Even though his parents were concerned that Rose wasn't Jewish, his mother seemed less upset about idea of having a non-Jewish daughter in law.

Bates (Brendan Coyle) and Anna (Joanne Froggatt), meanwhile, did their best to show their displeasure to Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) for providing information to the police. Mary finally revealed to Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) that she had burnt the train ticket that would have exonerated Bates.

After Isobel (Penelope Wilton) announced her engagement to Lord Merton, his son was invited to Downton for dinner. However, that turned out to be a major fiasco as Merton's son Larry (Charlie Anson) insulted both Isobel and Branson (Allen Leech) and then was ordered to leave after Branson hurled an expletive back at him.

Robert (Hugh Bonneville) received bad news that Isis had cancer and would not live much longer. When the dog was about die, he carried the labrador to the bed he shared with Cora as they waited for their pet's final hours.
