Employees at Anaheim Angels Stadium Told to Work Through National Anthem
Employees for the Anaheim Angels baseball team are reportedly being encouraged to continue with their job duties as the National Anthem plays during the 2015 season.
The Anaheim Angels MLB team has received criticism from its employees after ticket-takers at the stadium in Anaheim, California were told that they are to continue with their job duties as the National Anthem plays, so late-comers may still be able to find their seats before the start of the game.
According to ABC7 News, while the team's management has argued that keeping the crowds moving during the National Anthem will help improve security in the stadium, employees are arguing that the new rule is a step too far.
"They've always stopped," Jeff Froehlich, a representative from the Service Employees International Union, told the local media outlet. "They would like to see that tradition continued."
"They essentially want to honor the national anthem, which is a heavy tradition in Major League Baseball," Froehlich, whose group represents the ticket-takers, added to the local media outlet.
According to the Orange County Register, the Anaheim Angels stadium has implemented a series of new regulations, especially related to security, ahead of the 2015 season.
Some of these regulations include more metal detectors, heightened security and bag-checkers.
One fan, Jennifer Brown of Chino, told the OC Register that "It's about time" new security measures were implemented.
"We've got metal detectors at high schools, the airports and at Dodger Stadium and other stadiums. I'm a Dodger fan. I'm used to being pat down," she told the local media outlet.
