Ex-Wife Says Planned Parenthood Shooting Suspect 'Obsessed With World Coming to An End'
The ex-wife of the suspect who allegedly opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado last week said her former husband was "obsessed with the world coming to an end."
Barbara Mescher Michaux, former wife of suspected gunman Robert L. Dear, said in a court filing that her ex-husband claimed to follow Christian values but was in reality abusive, as well as addicted to gambling and having extra-marital affairs.
"He claims to be a Christian and is extremely evangelistic, but he does not follow the Bible in his actions," Mescher Michaux wrote in a court filing, as reported by the New York Times. "He says as long as he believes he will be saved, he can do whatever he pleases. He is obsessed with the world coming to an end."
The couple divorced in 1993, and Michaux has said in recent interviews that she has not kept in touch with her ex-husband since their divorce.
Pamela Ross, also an ex-wife of Dear, said in a recent interview that her former husband was prone to bouts of anger and occasional domestic violence.
Following his Friday attack on the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood facility, Dear reportedly told investigators "no more baby parts," leading some media outlets to make a connection between recent videos released by the Center for Medical Progress regarding Planned Parenthood.
President Barack Obama spoke out against the shooting this week, saying in a statement that the mass shootings that continue to plague the nation are "not normal."
"We can't let it become normal. If we truly care about this — if we're going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them," the president added.
