'Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon' release date, news & update: Ubisoft launches 30th anniversary with premiere of 'Far Cry 3'

As Ubisoft, the game maker, celebrates its 30th anniversary this month, it will be releasing a game for free every month. On Nov. 9, Ubisoft announced that it has released "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" free to be download for the PC.

But gamers need to have a Uplay account in order to download the game, because a month from now, the game will no longer be free.

Ubisoft officials reportedly explained that the studio wanted to make sure that the games are polished and tested thoroughly during the Alpha stage even if it means not releasing those games in 2017.

It's 2007, and gamers get to portray Sgt. Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando. In "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon," the lead character is supposed to get the girl, kill the bad guys, and save the world. It's a VHS vision of a nuclear future where cyborgs, blood dragons and mutants try to eliminate each other.

According to reports, "Far Cry 3: Dragon Blood" is a hybrid with everything in it, from the Navy Seals to Cyborgs to Terminators and more.

The game may sound like a no-brainer by current standards, but back then, it was a blockbuster and there were few games to challenge its supremacy. It was, in fact, said to be revolutionary and unique. Moreover, it has an outstanding soundtrack, thanks to electronic artist Power Glove.

Originally released back in 2013, "Blood Dragon" was a spin-off of "Far Cry 3." The same engine was used but the setting, the tone and the story were completely different.

During its early years, "Blood Dragon" was extremely well-received and it got even better reviews than the game it originated from. Thus, even if one is not the biggest fan of the latest Far Cry games, there are lots of reasons to give "Blood Dragon" a try, especially while it's free.
