'Fargo' season 3 air date, news & update: Comedian Jim Gaffigan cast as series regular
For the third season of the crime drama anthology "Fargo," comedian Jim Gaffigan will be joining the rest of the A-list cast members of the show. Reports say that the comedian has recently been cast as a series regular on the FX TV series.
Gaffigan will be portraying a police deputy named Donny Mashman. The deputy will be working together with police chief Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon).
News about Gaffigan's casting was revealed shortly after the actor and his wife, Jeannie, left their famous comedy series, "The Jim Gaffigan Show." The couple reportedly decided to leave the show to have more time for their family.
Coon's Gloria Burgle is the chief of Eden Valley Police. She portrays a newly divorced mother who isn't too fond of the latest advances in technology. Burgle will fail to understand why society is choosing interaction through mobile devices over personal contact.
Aside from Gaffigan and Coon, Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be joining the third for the TV series. McGregor will portray brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy in his first TV series project. The former will be the better-looking and successful brother who is dubbed the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota." The latter, on the other hand, will be a resentful parole officer. Meanwhile, Winstead will be playing a recent parolee named Nikki Swango.
"Halt and Catch Fire" actor Scoot McNairy will also join the aforementioned stars for the upcoming season. However, the actor's role has yet to be revealed by the network.
The third season will be set in 2010, and the rising selfie culture will be explored in the show. Production for the third season of "Fargo" is expected to begin later this year. Season 3 will return to FX in 2017.
