'Fargo' season 3 spoilers, cast rumors: Carrie Coon joins FX series as new female lead; plot details revealed
"Fargo" has cast its new female lead.
Carrie Coon, who is known for starring in HBO's "The Leftovers" and in the 2014 mystery drama "Gone Girl," is boarding FX's crime drama anthology in its upcoming season 3.
According to TVLine, the actress will play the series regular role of Gloria Burgle opposite Ewan McGregor, whose casting was announced earlier this year. The critically acclaimed series is known for switching up its cast each season.
In "Fargo" season 3, Coon's Gloria is described as a practical lady "who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics." She is a newly divorced mother and also the chief of the Eden Valley police. Gloria is said to be "struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them."
Coon, whose work on "The Leftovers" has earned much praise, is currently in Australia shooting the HBO show's third and final season. The end of "The Leftovers" has freed the actress up to join the cast of "Fargo," according to TVLine.
Meanwhile, McGregor is set to take on two roles in "Fargo" season 3. The actor will play brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit, the older of the two, is described as a good-looking and confident real estate tycoon known as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. Ray, the younger brother, is said to be a portly parole officer who blames Emmit for the sad state of his life.
In December, "Fargo" creator and showrunner Noah Hawley said that season 3 will have connections to the show's first two seasons.
"There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first," he told Entertainment Weekly, and added, "but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn't want to take that away from anybody."
"There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story," he said.
"Fargo" season 3 is expected to begin production later this year. The new season will air in 2017.
