'Fargo' season 3 premiere date, cast news, update: Jim Gaffigan and Mary Elizabeth Winstead join show

The crime drama anthology "Fargo" will be returning to the small screen soon for its season 3. A whole new plot will take over which means fans will be watching new stars come in.

According to reports, the latest addition to the series is Jim Gaffigan ("Super Troopers," "Hot Pursuit") and he is going to be a series regular. Not much is known about Gaffigan's role but it has been revealed that he will play Donny Mashman, a police deputy who will be working together with the chief of police in Edna Valley, Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon).

Another star bound for "Fargo" is "10 Cloverfield Lane" actress, Mary Elizabeth Winstead. As detailed in TVLine, she will also be a series regular in the Emmy-winning FX anthology and she will be playing the role of Nikki Swango.

Winstead's character is described as a "crafty and alluring" new parolee who is into playing bridge which she can get very competitive at. Moreover, she is said to be a woman with a plan and is always focused on her every move, making sure she is one step ahead of her enemies.

Gaffigan and Winstead will join other stars including Ewan McGregor, who will be playing the two lead roles of season 3's story arc. He will portray two characters, the brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. The plot of the third installment will circle around them and will be set in the year 2010, which is four years after the events from the first season.

As revealed in a report, Emmit and Ray share the same appearance but they live different lives. The older of the two, Emmit, is the good-looking and confident one. He is a self-assured real estate magnate and is popular around town. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Ray, goes by unnoticed. He is described to be the flabby parole officer who blames his older brother for his sorry state of affairs.

"Fargo" season 3 will air in spring 2017 so followers of the series will have to stay tuned for more updates.
