'Fast 8' cast, spoilers news 2016: 'Feud' between co-stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson a publicity stunt for promo WWE match?
It looks like the much-talked-about on-set feud between "Fast & Furious" franchise co-stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel is no more than a publicity stunt intended to create hype for an upcoming World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) match and, ultimately, the next installment in the action/adventure series.
According to Life & Style, the co-stars' alleged on-set issues were completely made up to create some fictional drama and tension between Johnson and Diesel.
"They are playing a huge prank, and it's all for publicity," an unnamed source allegedly told the outlet.
"The Rock convinced Vin to amp up the drama between them so they could turn it into a WWE match to help promote the April 2017 release of 'Fast 8,'" the informant reportedly revealed.
The press first got wind of the alleged feud between the "Fast 8" co-stars when Johnson posted an Instagram message earlier this month announcing his final week of filming on "Fast 8." In the post, the actor called out some of his male co-stars, saying that there are those who do not conduct themselves as true professionals. He also called the unnamed co-stars "candy a—s" and "chicken s—t."
Almost immediately after the message was posted, rumors began circulating that Johnson was referring to Diesel, with various sources claiming that the feud between the two had been ongoing for months.
Later, in an Instagram post announcing that he had wrapped filming on "Fast 8," Johnson failed to thank Diesel but expressed his gratitude to co-stars Scott Eastwood and Tyrese Gibson.
The report that the feud was only dreamed up to promote a WWE match between Johnson and Diesel seems possible given that WWE's Wrestlemania takes place on April 2, just days before "Fast 8" is scheduled to hit theaters.
Meanwhile, "Fast 8" actor Jason Statham recently spoke to People about the so-called feud between his co-stars.
"I stay out of any bickering or any troubles that people have," the actor told the outlet. "I have nothing to do with it and I don't want any part of it."
"Look, Dwayne's his own man and what he says he's entitled to say in his own way," he added.
"Fast 8" is set to premiere in theaters on April 14, 2017.
