'Fast and Furious 8' spoilers, news: Helen Mirren joins cast; new location confirmed
"Fast and Furious 8" has added to its roster of cast members British actress Dame Helen Mirren, who is said to be joining "for the fun of it."
The actress, 70, confessed she has always loved driving and told Elle that she signed on for her role only if she would be allowed to drive herself. She declared last year that it was her one big ambition to be in a "Fast and Furious" movie, flashing her credentials from being on "Top Gear."
"I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive,'" she said. "We'll see how it transpires."
Her involvement was confirmed on the film's official Twitter page with a post that read, "It doesn't get better than this: Helen Mirren joins the Fast Family in #F8. 4.14.17."
However, her role in the upcoming eighth installment of the movie is strictly being kept secret. Besides Mirren, the cast includes Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham.
The film has been shooting in various locations such as Cuba, Cleveland, Ohio, and even snowy Iceland. A new video, which showed behind-the-scenes footage in the latest location, had fans amazed at how racetracks could be set up even in the snowiest areas.
In the video, Gibson said, "We are at it again. Sending love from Iceland." The video also showed a line of heavily armed trucks, tanks, and expensive sports cars, as well as a scene of a car speeding through ice-laden territory and followed by a heart-thumping explosion, car chasing, and more promising action that will no doubt leave fans panting with adrenaline rush.
There had been rumors that some scenes in the upcoming sequel would be shot in Iceland, and it seemed that they were true after all.
"Fast and Furious 8" will be released in the United States and the United Kingdom on April 14, 2017.
