'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 news, spoilers: Showrunner on Nick's relationship with Luciana, possible 'TWD' crossover
The last time "Fear the Walking Dead" fans saw Nick (Frank Dillane), the troubled young man had chosen to go solo in hopes of finding other survivors with a similar view of the undead.
When the back half of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 premieres, fans will find Nick doing just that. But could the former junkie find himself in a "be careful what you wish for" scenario?
"Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson recently spoke to TVLine about the consequences of Nick's choice to find like-minded survivors and on the relationship that Nick will have with Luciana (Danay Garcia), a community leader who will be introduced in season 2B.
"The belief system that he finds when he gets to the colonia is somewhat extreme," Erickson said about Nick's journey. "You see that in Episode 9."
Erickson also previewed Nick and Luciana's relationship, saying, "I wouldn't say that he potentially finds love, but he does find in Luciana a woman who has become orphaned in a way — but not by choice."
"I think it's an apocalyptic loss," he added. "What's different is that Nick chose to walk away from his family, whereas Luciana did not."
Meanwhile, though "Fear the Walking Dead" fans have long been waiting for an announcement of a potential "The Walking Dead" crossover, Erickson recently revealed that the chances of that happening are slim.
In a recent chat with ComicBook.com, the "Fear the Walking Dead" co-creator said that there is currently no plan to do a crossover and that, from a narrative perspective, a crossover of the two shows would be "too difficult" to pull off.
"It's such a complicated proposition and I think for the time being, the two shows just need to exist in their own spheres," he explained.
"Fear the Walking Dead" returns for the second half of its second season on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
